Aaron and Collin turned 4 yesterday! Dad made them gigantic pancakes for breakfast and then we were off to swimming lessons. I wish I could say it was a wonderful day but it was "one of those days" instead. Collin isn't really loving his swimming lessons and so he's in a less advanced class than Aaron and Davin. We are so happy if he even gets into the water each day. Aaron has done great in his class and will even go off the diving board! Yesterday however, Aaron decided he didn't like swimming lessons either and was crying and screaming for about 20 min. During all of this, Collin decided to cry about putting a life jacket on. I wanted to find the nearest rock to crawl under, but there weren't any... It was so embarrassing! Then after that trauma, I decided to take them to McDonald's and buy them a happy meal and let them play. I rarely buy the happy meals because I don't need another lame toy kicking around and they are kind of expensive. I thought this would be a treat for them. Aaron and Davin loved it, ate their happy meal and went to play. Collin would NOT eat his cheeseburger and I told him he couldn't play until he ate some. He then chucked his cheeseburger on the floor and sat down and cried. I packed everyone up and we were out of there too! Then it was NAP TIME, the most wonderful time of day! It was nice to have a break from the drama. I proceeded to make the ugliest cakes that were ever made for a birthday. They just didn't turn out how I was envisioning them... We had pizza for dinner and then they opened their presents. They loved that part and they got some really fun things from Grandma! Thank you Grandma, we love you! One of the things we got them was a slip and slide, which they were so excited about. They all got their swimming suits on and ran outside to try it. They got a few slides in but then were almost eaten alive by mosquito's! We had to come in. One thing that I thought was really sweet is that Davin bought the twins some matchbox cars and bubble gum with his own money he had earned. He spent every penny he had on them. He was so excited to give them their presents. What a sweet little boy! Well, overall it was a pretty good day and I hope Aaron and Collin only remember the good parts. I could have just posted the cute pics and said we had a great day but I think it's good to "keep it real" and let everyone know that some days are just hard being a mom and that everything just doesn't go the way we want it to sometimes. Despite it all, I'm so glad we have Aaron and Collin in our family. We love them so much and they are always making us laugh. I look forward to all the new things they will learn this year. It's so fun to watch them grow up.

Um, actually those are the cutest cakes ever! You are way too hard on yourself! And you are such a great mom and are very patient with your kids! REMEMBER, you have 4 boys, crazy! I hope Aaron and Collin had a fun birthday, which I'm sure they did! SMILE :)
I agree, the cakes are so cute! I've only made one birthday cake. It was a pink Thomas the Train cake and it was ugly, but Alexis loved it. Being a Mom is so hard, definitely the hardest, most important and still most rewarding job. Denali can be melting down like the world had ended and the next second she is laughing. It is constant drama and I only have two. So you are doing a great job and don't be embarrassed because we have all been through it.
You ARE too hard on yourself, girl! You are a great mom who makes great cakes :) "Those" days really suck and hopefully when we are old and gray, we only remember the good parts too!
Happy birthday you cute boys! Can't believe our little ones are 4 already! And Davin, what a sweetheart for spending his own money on a present for his brothers! I love the pictures on your blog too. Good job! Hope to see you all soon!
We all have those days - even though we want to forget the "real" parts and pretend it is all good!
You are such a great mom! I watch you with your boys and always thing you are so amazing! You are so awesome with them...I only wish I could be as patient as you! (And those cakes were SO cute! - I love that they each got their own!)
I hope you have "good days" all week!
I SO agree with everyone too! The cakes are just wonderful! What could be cuter...the boys are SO lucky! In fact the cuteness factor just keeps going up on your blog!!!!! Love to you all! Mom
Sometimes I get the best laughs on those days where it seems like nothing is going right. It's either laugh or go crazy:) I am glad to hear that I am not the only mom that has days like that. It looks like the boys had a wonderful birthday though and honestly those cakes are amazing. I have only attempted the cake making thing once...but now I know who to go to for my next child's birthday;) You are amazing!
All I needed is the love you gave, all I needed is another day, and alllll I ever knEW, only you. Ummmm, anyway. hehehe. Wow, I can't believe those little munchkins are 4!! What a crazy day, honestly, and you really do handle it all like the trooper you are. You are a darling mother and those cakes are stinkin cute. Making cute cakes is really over rated, I spent an entire day on a stupid bulldozer cake just so my husband could devour it in a day or two (p.s. it was basically like 4 cakes in one, thats a lot of cake, ew!) All that matters is you are the most loving mommy that those boys could ever ask for, look at how sweet Davin is to his siblings, where do you think they get it? Happy Birthday, Aaron and Collin, we love you guys!!
Hi. I'm just now getting around to reading your post. I about cried when I read Davin bought his brothers presents with his own money. He really is so sweet! And... yes you are too hard on yourself. You are an awesome mommy! Happy belated Birthday Aaron and Collin!! They are seriously so cute! Oh... and at least you made your own cakes... I would have purchased them from somewhere and called it good.
I agree with everyone here!! You are too hard on yourself and I think you are a perfect, patient, organized, creative, and loving mother!! Can't forget fresh smelling too- I love the baking soda idea- I tried it last night! :) I gave up on the idea of making cute cakes long ago..simplify is my motto! :)
And you have 4 boys under 6...WOW!!!! You are amazing! Heavenly Father knew you could do it and that is why you are blessed with those cuties. Love ya!!
