Debut on TV...

A week or so ago Channel 4 had heard about how amazing our community was down here and wanted to do a story on the Softball tournament that so many of you have been involved in. (Or so we thought). Erin and Rachel came to my house prior to the interview and we were as giddy as high-school girls when we saw the news van pull up. The news anchor was so nice and asked me questions about when I was first diagnosed and what kind of things went through my mind on a daily basis. I really wanted anyone that was watching it to feel HOPE, especially if someone had just been diagnosed themselves. I tried to allow the positive to come through in each answer.

They talked to Rachel and showed a scrapbook page that she was donating to the raffle. We went to the Pizza place and they got shots of the kids and Jas flipping pizza (which stole the show). I kept wondering why they hadn't interviewed Erin yet (who started the whole idea of the tournament and trip to Disneyland). They did a little spot on the Mayor, who has been amazing at helping with donating food for the breakfast and donating the fields for the games.

We all sat awaiting the ten o' clock news and were a little surprised by the final result. The teasers at the front said things like, "A young mother, dying of pancreatic cancer, and her wish to take her kids to Disneyland, before it's too late". It was all about cancer. Stupid cancer. I am not dying... I'm LIVING! Anyway... it wasn't quite what I expected, but I guess with the amount of time allowed for my story and with final edits being made by someone that had never talked to me, that's what it ended up like. It was such a fun experience though and I have had a lot of people tell me that they loved it and thought it was inspiring. I just didn't feel like it encompassed what I'm about, but I know that it has a purpose that I may not yet be aware of. It did allow us to find our "Disneyland Angel" as we affectionately call her. Her husband works for Disney and after watching the news they donated all the tickets for us to go!!

I am so grateful for the fun experience and am even more grateful for all of you that have done so much and put in more hours than I am aware of on this project. We truly live in the most amazing place full of such generous and caring people. We realize more fully my story and the message that I want to convey. Even though it wasn't what I would have done, it was fun and "it is what it is".

For sure a day I will never forget!! The best part is that they couldn't figure out why we lived in a tiny town with no shopping and horses in the street, LOL. We have the secret though, we have figured it out and this is where we all belong! I know the news story touched people you will never even know. You are so brave to try new things and take it as a learning experience. You shined like a star on ABC4 :)

We just happened to be watching channel 4 that nightm and we NEVER watch channel 4! I thought the "dying mother's last wish" thing was a little doom-and-gloom, especially knowing that is NOT the way you feel, or what you intended the story to be. Overall, it was GREAT and I'm so happy we accidentally tuned in!
